Background
Passionate about luxury home building and helping clients build their dream homes, our founding Principal John Finton has spent the past 30 years dedicated to the art and science of curating and building one-of-a-kind estates for some truly remarkable people, including captains of industry, celebrities, and various world leaders who will settle for nothing but the best.
Unlike the majority of advisory service firms in the marketplace we’ve actually built a lot of luxury homes over three decades allowing our clients to leverage this experience to the benefit of the design and cost of their homes. Our Principal John Finton has built over 400 homes in locations around the world, traveling extensively and gaining professional experience from the Americas to Europe and Asia. On a daily basis he was managing 2,000 people a day with projects in West Los Angeles, Malibu, Santa Monica, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, San Diego, and Mexico.
From walking a site to schematic design, John personally guides the big picture all the way to construction and completion. His imagination, versatility, and ability to render a client’s vision are skillfully brought to light. He is a strong communicator and is especially skilled at engaging clients visioning sessions to produce early design concepts. Whether it is modern re-creation of a period house or an inventive interpretation of a traditional style, John skillfully advances traditions with modern functionality and ingenuity.
Committed to his clients and design excellence, John’s masterful interpretations are rooted in classical tradition. He has built homes with range of styles from French Normandy to Traditional Malibu Beach, and Italian Modern to Asian Contemporary. More than just houses, many of these estates are complete with bowling alleys, vineyards, polo fields, movie theaters and more. His building process includes sourcing the most appropriate and unique reclaimed materials – from Chinese cobblestones to centuries-old Indonesian teak – to augment his stunning constructions.
Finton Advisory was founded with the mission of being a financial advocate for its’ clients. We work closely with high-net worth individuals, family offices, and business managers to manage all financial aspects of our client’s projects with a focus on cost optimization. With an abundance of similar project management firms in the marketplace, having an A-list luxury home advisory service firm like Finton Advisory is key to our clients maximizing their return on investment as well as ensuring everything is built to the exact specification of the architect.
His international profile of work has also been featured in over 100 publications including the New York Times, Architectural Digest, El Décor, The London Sunday Times, Robb Report, Veranda, L.A. Business Journal, and California Homes. He is also a published author of the book “California Luxury Living: A Private Tour” which was published in 2013.
In addition to his passion for luxury home building, John is an avid sailor and loves working on his boat. John has two daughters and two adult sons. He currently lives in Beverly Hills with his wife Nicole who is a luxury interior designer and daughter Alexandra.
Services

Residential design is unique in its potential to be highly personal, reflecting the individual owner’s interests, needs, and dreams. We advise our clients on the design and construction of spaces offering both pre-construction and construction advisory services where we act as the personal CEO of the construction process to ensure overall design and financial objectives are achieved.
Examples of pre-construction services include but are not limited to reviewing current architectural drawings and related soils reports, structural drawings, and other related drawings. Evaluating and working closely with project expeditors and the city to understand current status and completeness of design development plans. Working with consultants to provide estimated timeline and schedule for permitting process. Making recommendations, reviewing contracts, and helping with hiring of all consultants. Evaluating drawings for completeness, constructability, and cost. Coordinating estimates from qualified contractors at each phase. Working with owners and financial team to ensure that drawings are adhering to the budget objectives.
Examples of construction services include but are not limited to working with the client, architect, and various consultants to solicit bids for general contractors. Providing recommendations relating to the general contractor, architects, or other design professionals. Analyzing detailed cost estimates to negotiate and award contracts to the general contractor. Monitoring the budget on the behalf of client to ensure financial and design objectives are met.
Inspection Services
We are frequently tasked by real estate buyers to coordinate home inspection services using our best class resources with the goal of assessing the true value of the home as well as helping our clients obtain the most leverage in negotiating the price of their home. Our approach to home inspection services, regardless of the home’s condition is to visit the site, coordinate the home inspection, review the home inspection reports, work with permit expeditors, as well as prepare cost analyses, time estimates, and budgets.
Hospitality & Fitness
Hospitality which includes hotels and private clubs and fitness venues which includes gyms and spas often encompass a wide range of shared social spaces. Given the current state of affairs, how consumers feel about the cleanliness of the spaces they occupy is now top of mind. Today’s health conscious and tech-centric lifestyle approach demands innovative planning of spaces to accommodate the shifting balance for healthy social spaces.
We advise our clients on how the architecture and interior design must work in tandem to communicate the brand while also feeling healthy, comfortable, and welcoming to patrons. We advise clients on the integration of sustainable building systems that incorporate the most advanced health & wellness technologies. The built environment leaves a legacy for future generations in a variety of ways: ecologically, through its impact on the environment; financially, through its impact on the client’s bottom line; and human health, through day-to-day monitoring and long-term maintenance of the space.
Health & Wellness
We recognize the risk that viruses and unhealthy spaces pose to individuals, especially those that are immune-compromised. Our founding Principal is a key advisor for the leader in the residential, commercial, and hospitality Health & Wellness real estate whose technology is backed by a significant investment in research with industry leading architects, scientists, and health professionals as well as partnerships and collaborations with the Cleveland Clinic and the Mayo Clinic, specifically the research conducted at the Well Living Lab
We advise our clients on designing and creating ways for spaces to actively contribute to human health, performance and wellness by marrying the best innovations in technology, health, science, and real estate. The result of this research is enhanced indoor environments which can directly improve the strength of the immune system.
